Mia Ikumi, 42, was the manga artist for the popular series “Tokyo Mew Mew” from 2002 to 2006. The series is about a young girl who can transform into a cat and has to fight against other Mew Mew girls for the sake of her home city. Ikumi’s manga also inspired an anime series that aired from 2006 to 2007 and an OVA series that was released in 2009. Cartoon artist Mia Ikumi, known for her illustrations of the manga series Tokyo Mew Mew, passed away on Tuesday. Her death was announced on the official website of Hakusensha Inc., publisher of the shoujo manga magazine LaLa, which serialized and published three volumes of Tokyo Mew Mew from 2000 to 2003.

The cause of death is as yet unknown but is being investigated by a coroner at a hospital in Nishi-Ku, Osaka Prefecture. An autopsy was conducted Wednesday. She was best known for her manga series Tokyo Mew Mew and its anime adaptation, where a group of young girls, the titular Mew Mews, defend Earth from aliens that are secretly invading it. Mia Ikumi passed away after battling colon cancer in Fukuoka on Sunday, April 25th. She was 42 years old. she was known for creating the manga series Tokyo Mew Mew.
