Anthony Sweeney Eloped From Hospital After Stabbing A Priest Six Times
As per the reports the person or the priest who was stabbed was identified as Fr Bobit Augusthy who is from India and is in his 40s. Bobit was at his house when he was attacked and stabbed multiple times. The reports from the police suggest that Bobit was stabbed a total of six times which includes stabs in his face, his back, and his head as well. This incident occurred on the 30th of October 2022, Sunday when Bobit was coming out of his bathroom when the attackers entered his house, grabbed a peel-off knife, and attacked Bobit right in front of his face. The knife was used so much that it was bent and broken. The court identified the attack as a violent attack.
Who Is Anthony Sweeney?
The attacker, in this case, was identified as 22 years old young named Anthony Sweeney who was at the UHW department of psychiatry for his treatment, he scaled from the wall of the health centre and entered Bobit’s house. The reports claimed that Sweeney is originally from Penrose Lane, Waterford city and he escaped from the premises. After escaping from the ward he entered the nearby Chaplains house which was of Bobit and his two other co-priests, who were living together. By the time Bobit came out of the bathroom, Sweeney entered and attacked him. The other priest who also came out because of the noise helped Bobit and Sweeney escape while leaving behind his socks and shoes.

Sweeney when entered the house, initially armed himself and then attacked, as if he planned everything up, But at the moment it is unclear why he did so but the charges are laid on him, and the trials are ongoing. Det Garda who was seeing the case said that the knife broke and was bent because of how much pressure was applied to it. Hopefully, there are no fatalities in this case and Bobit was transferred to the hospital as soon as he was discovered injured by his inmates. He is currently undergoing treatment at the hospital. The CCTV footage which was taken into the trials showed how Sweeney entered the house and left minutes later at 9:16 am after attacking the priest. After Sweeney injured bobit he jumped from the house, injuring himself, and later ran back to the psychiatric hospital and slept peacefully as if nothing happened. Bishop of Waterford added that the priest is undergoing treatment at the hospital and he asked the citizens to pray for his health as the priest is under critical condition. He also thanked everyone for their concerns. Judge John Cheatle added that the accused will remain under custody and that the trials will be held for this case until then the accused is under investigation.
